Heat recovery ventilation (HRV)

Also known as mechanical ventilation heat recovery (MVHR), uses a heat exchanger to transfer heat between incoming and outgoing air flows. This process provides fresh air and better climate control while saving energy by reducing heating and cooling needs in various applications, including vehicles.

As buildings become more airtight due to insulation and weather stripping, the need for fresh air sources like HRV increases. HRV brings fresh air indoors, improves climate control, and enhances energy efficiency. Opening a window does offer ventilation, but it causes heat and humidity loss in winter and heat gain in summer, making HVAC systems work harder. This aligns with UK building regulations, which require one air change every two hours (0.5 ACH). Traditional ventilation systems would require heating a house-full of cold air 12 times a day.
